Scenewave’s guide to Sunset Sounds 2010

Words by Scenewave Oz - Published on October 14, 2009

Another year passes and what better way to kick off 2010 then to get along to Sunset Sounds on the 6th and 7th of January.

Those of you who were lucky enough to bag tickets to last years sold out festivities would be aware that the lineup coincides with that of Falls Festival down south.

Being so, it brings to Brisbane a swag full of the hottest international and local acts that we can dance to, graced with sunny skies, grassed meadows and the beautiful botanical gardens in the backdrop.

Although Sunset Sounds is a while away (4 months) we recommend the following to get prepared:

Tickets

Purchase a ticket. Obviously. Tickets are still available at www.ticketmaster.com.au for those of you who are yet to purchase one. Two day passes are $154.60 and are restricted to 18 years and over.

Accommodation

Being a two day event, if you’re travelling from outside Brisbane find accomodation near the botanical gardens.

Our recommendations include the local backpacker joints (for those of you on a shoestring budget), although they may require a bit of a walk to the Gardens.

For the high-rollers, check out Royal on the Park, Quay West or Stamford Plaza, for ultimate comfort and convenience.

Transport

With your ticket and accommodation sorted, time to get to the festival!

For those of you along the river, the City Cat is an ideal way to get to the festival while viewing the sights of Brisbane. The QUT ferry terminal is only a stones throw from the festival.

Buses depart throughout the day to Adelaide St Bus Mall. An inner city bus loop will also drop you closer to the Botanical Gardens.

Central Railway station is also only a 5 minute walk to the festival.

Arrival

Arrive early to secure your spot in the line. The Botanical Gardens are notorious for long lines, and the last thing you want is to miss that band you came to see.

Remember to get your sunscreen on, it’s going to be a scorcher. Expect 30+ degrees!

Also, before you get inside withdraw some cash. ATM’s are scarce, and are usually accompanied by ridiculous lines.

Drinking

Drinks will be expensive ($9 plus), however the selection is usually pretty good.

The best solution; organise an epic pre-party beforehand!! Responsibly of course.

Last but not least

Get on your dancing choose!!
