Beck has released a beautiful new video clip

Beck has unveiled a new video, to accompany single Heart is a Drum from his highly acclaimed album Morning Phase, which was released in February this year.

The stunning video is really worth a watch. Directed by Sophie Miller, the grainy black and white clip is a nostalgic journey through a rural landscape, encountering characters of all sorts including astronauts and the grim reaper. It’s a phenomenally produced, visually gorgeous video which tells a truly haunting tale.

This was the twelfth album from the highly respected musician who has become known as one of the greatest pioneers of lo-fi, experimental pop in recent decades. The album is also reportedly a ‘companion piece’ to 2002’s Sea Change – and it  “harkens back to the stunning harmonies, song craft and staggering emotional impact of that record, while surging forward with infectious optimism.”

While Morning Phase comes a full six years after his previous recording, 2008’s Modern Guilt, it’s not like he’s been spending the past few years relaxing. Surely one of the busiest men in music, Beck shows no sign of slowing down. He has just (finally) released an album to accompany Song Reader, a 2012 release entirely comprised of sheet music compositions – it wasn’t a recording, and as such, could only be heard during live performances. The album features other musical heroes including Jack White, Laura Marling, Pulp’s Jarvis Cocker and more.

Beck was last in town for the now defunct Harvest Festival in 2012, so let’s cross our fingers and hope that he’ll be gracing Australian shores some time soon!
